ACKdirty Adventure Ride

Dirt, Grass & Gravel Group Ride

GROUP RIDE: SUNDAY May 30th, 2021

There are now more ways than ever to help support this year's this years Swim Across America campaign . LIke to bike off-road while enjoying Nantucket's stunning natural beauty? This ride's for you. Have you been affected personaly by the devastation that is cancer? This ride's for you...

HOW IT WORKS

Please join us in highlighting one of our most important charity events of the year: Swim Across America Nantucket and their fundraising efforts supporting local cancer care here on Nantucket Island.

This ride is a unsanctioned, unsupported DIY, self-timed GROUP RIDE. While I would encourage you to make a donation to my campaign at some point between now and the marquee SAA Swim event on July 24th, 2021, this group ride is FREE.

Please read on for details and guidelines:

  • If you’d like to join us, please let me know to expect you.

  • The 50ish mile courses will not be physically marked but I will email every one the route just in case your pace is not everyones’ pace.

  • Join our ACKDirty Adventure Ride Strava club to participate in our rides leaderboard.

  • If your looking for QOMs or KOMs, be sure to STAR the segments on Strava featured in the route you choose so that your GPS device will tell you when they're coming.

About the Course

The course itself is a mix of dirty, sandy roads, some tarmac, a few grassy passes, some beautiful forested and shady trials (minimal single track). Newer riders will have more easy through the soft sandy patches on mountain bikes, but most will enjoy riding your gravel or cyclocross bikes. This course is NOT for road bikes.

Rules and Guidelines

  • While many of us are now vaccinated (grateful for that) we are still in a global pandemic, which is not to be taken lightly.  Please have a mask or buff with you the event we stop for a break somewhere near the public. A Buff might be ideal so that you can easily don and doff (fancy word!) it when around other trail users.

  • Check your tire pressure the morning of the ride - before you leave the house. I will bring my bike pump to the start, just in case ;)

  • Bring supplies: nutrition, water, inner tubes, hand pump or can of Co2 and sealant. You never know what you might need and it’s bad etiquette to rely on other riders.

Why we ride

Every 15 minutes 50 Americans are diagnosed with cancer? In three decades, Swim Across America's innovative charity model has granted over $80 million dollars that has lead to new cancer cures in immunotherapy and breakthroughs in screening and detection methods. Volunteers and participants like you have created a culture where our charity swims offer empowerment and hope. These testimonials from SAA Beneficiaries share how important your impact can be.

This is my 8th year living as a cancer survivor. This is my 7th year asking for your help.

I wouldn't be here without you.

Love,

Caitlin (Griffin & Bodhi)
